Project Brief
Having recently completed a 2 story extension for our clients, they came to us for ideas on how to transform the existing hallway leading into the new open plan extension.
The current layout was very dark, enclosed and tunnel like all the way from the front door leading through the hallway and it didn’t flow well at all.

Project Execution
Project Run-Through:
Following a positive site consultation, we began liaising with our structural engineer to explore removing a load-bearing wall—an idea the clients were excited to pursue to open up the staircase and allow natural light to flow through from the front door and overhead Velux window.
Once structural plans were approved, we had a bespoke steel goalpost system designed and manufactured. We created a detailed schedule of works and installation method to ensure the project ran smoothly with minimal disruption. This was no ordinary staircase renovation, but with careful planning and clear communication, we guided the clients through every stage—particularly the structural changes that would define the new staircase and landing layout.
Installation began with temporary supports using acrows and strong boys, followed by removal of the wall and safe steel beam installation using a genie lift. With structure complete, we fitted solid oak newel posts, spindles, and handrails, finishing the transformation with oak cladding and Osmo Satin Oil.

Our clients were delighted with the finished project, commenting on how spacious it made the entire home feel, it also allowed more natural light to flow through making the décor look brighter and fresh.
