Project Brief
Our client came to us for advice on how we could bring a second life to their existing staircase in their family home they’d lived in for over 40 years.
The existing staircase was very bland and dark and due to it being a townhouse it occupied a very large part of the home including through the 1st floor living room.
The homeowners knew they wanted something that not only looked smarter but also made the home feel brighter and fresh, what they didn’t know was how this would be achieved and what was possible

Project Execution
Project Run-Through:
With a clear vision but uncertainty around finer details, my clients trusted me to present a range of style and material combinations based on insights from our initial consultation.
One challenge was the two-storey staircase, where two structural newel posts couldn’t be removed. To overcome this, I sourced an oak overclad kit—hollow oak posts I could carefully scribe and fit over the originals to match the new solid posts.
I presented my proposed style options, explained the pros and cons of each, and refined the chosen design based on client feedback. With the project approved, I provided a full breakdown of the timeline and process to ensure transparency and peace of mind.
On installation day, we protected carpets and began removing the old staircase in stages to ensure safe daily use—especially important as the clients were elderly. As the transformation progressed, their excitement grew, and we were asked to complete the project with an oak oil finish.

Bringing the Vision to Life
Our clients could not believe that they finally had a brand new staircase that enhanced the overall feel of the entire home, whilst also making the property feel bigger and brighter, and all without completing any structural works or disruption to the rest of the home at all.
This project is potentially one of our most eye-catching transformations and the two story staircase is such an incredible addition to the family home.
The clients were particularly impressed with how seamlessly the new staircase integrated with the existing decor, creating a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary styles. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to excellence and our ability to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary living environments.
Client Testimonial
“We used Ryan for the first time after being let down by recommended guys twice. Can definately say I will use him again and recommend him. Good guy, good work and offered some ideas on other stuff. Very nice job replacing the old original metal stair frames and handrails.”
