Project Brief
Fitted Library Room
Our clients came to us for advice on how to install the perfect Library room into a Grade 2 Listed property in Wivenhoe, Colchester.
With very clear direction on what the space was to be used for and with style inspiration ready to show, the initial design consultation went very well.
We took on board all of our clients ideas as well as taking note of the period features already in the room so we could incorporate as much as possible into the newly fitted furniture, one of the many precise requests was to make the new library look in keeping with the original woodwork whilst still giving that striking brand new feel.

Project Execution
Project Run-Through:
After researching the period woodwork of the room, we sourced near-identical mouldings to integrate seamlessly into the new design.
Entrusted to add our own creative input, we introduced a decorative cornice and fluted feature pilasters—classic elements seen in grand 1800s British architecture, aligning with the property’s heritage. We fully designed the new Library Room in CAD and held a follow-up consultation to present the visuals and additional suggestions.
The client was thoroughly impressed and quickly approved the design for production. As with all our fitted units, we created a detailed cutlist in CAD and manufactured all cabinetry off-site, including five-piece shaker doors and pre-edged panels. This approach ensures high precision, quality control, and minimal disruption in the client’s home.
Once installed, the cabinetry was handed over to our professional spray finisher, who completed the transformation in Farrow & Ball’s rich “Hague Blue,” giving the room a striking and timeless finish.

Bringing the Vision to Life
Still one of our favourite projects to date this library room could not have come out better, fitting in perfectly with the period features of the property as well as providing ample storage.
The library was part of a Gentleman’s room which was uniquely styled by the homeowner with many features, such as a reclaimed chess board and antique scuba equipment.
