Traditional Shaker Master Wardrobe

portfolio

Project Brief

As part of a wider project, which also included traditional Shaker-style shoe cabinetry, our client asked us to create much-needed wardrobe storage for their new family home.

With the property being an old farmhouse and the ceilings relatively low, the design stage required careful consideration to ensure every inch of available space was used effectively. During the consultation, we discussed how the wardrobes would be used, the type of clothing and accessories that needed to be stored, and the client’s preferred layout.

The brief was clear: create a practical storage solution that retained a traditional feel, while introducing carefully considered details to achieve a timeless and characterful finish in keeping with the property.

Project Execution

Project Run-Through:

Once the internal wardrobe layout had been agreed, we provided a selection of panel samples so the client could choose the ideal woodgrain finish for the cabinetry.

Production then began in our workshop, where we carefully constructed the angled units to follow the line of the low vaulted ceiling. This was a key element of the design, allowing us to maximise the available space while creating a fitted finish that complemented the character of the room.

We then manufactured the Shaker-style doors and pre-cut the ogee-profile skirting that would form the finished base of the wardrobes. Every component was assembled and test-fitted in the workshop to confirm its accuracy before being carefully disassembled for finishing.

The doors and external panels were then sent to the spray booth, where they were coated in a durable polyurethane paint, colour-matched to Little Greene’s Wood Ash.

Project Completion

Bringing the Vision to Life

Thanks to the extensive preparation completed in our workshop, the on-site installation was efficient and seamless. With every component pre-assembled and test-fitted beforehand, the wardrobes came together quickly and accurately, allowing us to complete the installation in just two days.

Internally, the vintage oak cabinetry was enhanced with motion-sensor LED lighting, creating a refined, showroom-style finish while making the storage practical and easy to use. The angled units followed the line of the vaulted ceiling, while the carefully planned layout provided generous space for every item of clothing and accessory.

The traditional Shaker-style doors added an elegant finishing touch, complemented by the ogee-profile skirting that formed a clean and considered base to the wardrobes.

Our clients were delighted with the transformation and surprised by just how much additional storage space they had gained. After transferring everything from their previous wardrobes, they even joked that they would need a shopping trip to fill the remaining space. They were so pleased with the finished result that they have since commissioned us to complete further work within their home.
