Project Brief

After being delighted with the fitted library room we previously completed, our client invited us back to carry out further work within their home.

The brief was simple: replicate the high-quality finish of the downstairs library and create a three-quarter-height panelled feature wall in the living room. Having already built a strong level of trust through our previous work, we discussed the preferred height and overall proportions before the client left the remaining design details in our hands.

As the property is Grade II listed, careful consideration was given to preserving its existing character. Although planning permission was not required for this particular work, we ensured the new panelling complemented the original woodwork and mouldings throughout the property. This included sourcing a new skirting board with a profile that closely matched the existing design.

Before installation, all of the Shaker-style panelling was carefully cut to size in our workshop using a panel saw. Preparing the components in advance allows us to work more efficiently on site while achieving a cleaner, more accurate finish.

Once the panelling and matching skirting board had been installed, the room was handed over to our specialist spray finisher. The finishing process involved a full day of preparation and priming, followed by a second day applying the top coats. As always, every surrounding surface was carefully masked and taped to prevent overspray and create clean, crisp lines throughout.

Once again, we delivered a finish that exceeded our client’s expectations. Although they had already been delighted with the fitted library room, they were still pleasantly surprised by the transformation achieved in the living room.

The new panelled feature wall complements the existing woodwork throughout the property, creating a consistent and considered finish. The lighter colour also helped brighten the room, which previously received limited natural light through its two small, partially obstructed windows.
